Auf dem Cover ist Yoko dort wo sie auf den Lennon-Alben auch bitte hingehört- im Hintergrund. Highlights auf "Mind Games" sind nebst dem Titeltrack noch "Bring On The Lucie" und "Out The Blue".

"Mind Games" remastered? Nach "Plastic Ono Band", "Imagine", "Double Fantasy" und "Milk & Honey" erscheint nun also auch das 73-Album im neuen Glanz. Mit Mind Games kehrte John Lennon zu dem zurück, was er mit "Imagine" angefangen hatte. Vorher wagte er einen Abstecher mit der Doppel-LP "Sometime In New York City, deren Titel alle politisch sind. Meiner Meinung nach war "SINYC" herrlich gelungen, die Scheibe hatte aber keinen kommerziellen Erfolg und wurde von den Kritikern geradezu verrissen. "Mind Games" kam schliesslich einer Befreiung gleich, wenn auch nicht ganz gelungen...auch an dieser Platte hatten die Kritiker einiges auszusetzen. Es stimmt, sie erreicht niemals den Status eines "Imagine" oder "Plastic Ono Band"-Albums. Aber trotzdem...ich mag dieses Album...eröffnet wird es durch die Hymne "Mind Games". Das musikalisch und textlich herrausragendste Werk ist aber "Aisumasen (I`m Sorry)", eine Entschuldigung an seine Frau Yoko Ono (All I had to do was call your name), man spürt den Schmerz Lennons und kurz nach Veröffentlichung dieses Albums kam die 1-jährige Trennung, die John Lennon später schlicht "Verlorenes Wochenende" nannte (Er stürzte in die Drogensucht zurück). Aber zurück zum Album. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt bildet "Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)". Lennon drückt damit seine Wut und seinen Hass auf US-Präsident Richard Nixon aus (You slit when you slide down the hill, on the blood of the people you kill). Der in den USA lebende Lennon galt aufgrund seiner Vergangenheit (Drogen) und seinem öffentlichen Kampf gegen die Regierung Nixons als amerikanischer Staatsfeind (1980 als solcher elegant "entsorgt"???) Sicher auch zu den besten Lennon-Nummern gehört "Out The Blue". Als Neueinsteiger nicht kaufen! Zuerst "Imagine" oder "Plastic Ono Band" hören und erst dann zu Scheiben wie "Mind Games" oder "Walls And Bridges" greifen, die sind nämlich erst dann richtig interessant und ziemlich cool...

Es ist ein hübsches Projekt mit hübschen Songs. Das meiste von im einfach-melodiösem Lennon-Stil gehalten. Da überzeugen vor allem Aisumasen, One Day at a Time (übrigens von Elton John später noch geklaut), out the blue und "... wherever you are, you are here". Echt hübsch, aber ohne Hitpotential.

Keine schlechte Lennon-CD, auch wenn sie nicht an die Vorgänger "Plastic Ono Band" und "Imagine" herankommt. Gute Songs auf dieser Platte sind vor Allem "Aisumasen (I`m Sorry)", "Freda Peeple" und "Out The Blue".
